After 45 seconds Newcastle took the lead following a well worked short corner involving Dickson, a dummy from Davey and a great finish by Wilson. The game settled with Newcastle having the better of the early exchanges, Ramsey in particular on the left causing problems.
Further chances came for Newcastle but several good saves from the Moors keeper kept the scoreline close. Some excellent hassling by Ward robbed tge defender of the ball and his one two with Paul only just failed to come off. Ramsey did some great work in the box nudging the ball over a defender and vollying at goal but his effort was matched by the excellent Solihull keeper. Just prior to halftime Solihull almost fashioned an equaliser following a scramble in the penalty area but a crucial tackle by Dickson came to the rescue to maintain the lead.
The 2nd half started with Solihull pressing well in search for an equaliser. However, Newcastle weathered the storm and some excellent football involving most outfield players resulted in Black driving the ball low and hard across the box, a deflection by a defender knocking the ball into his own net.
The 2nd goal seemed to deflate Solihull a little and Newcastle pressed home their advantage from here on in. That said, an excellent save from Fletcher from a well struck free kick was needed to keep the lead at 2 but, that aside, Newcastle looked comfortable now with the defence well on top.
Some good work throughout resulted in Hepburn slotting home for a 3rd. Shortly before the end another well worked goal saw McKeown finish clinically from the middle of the penalty area.
All in all a good performance from all of the Newcastle players. Also full credit to Solihull who themselves are a very talented outfit.
