An entertaining cup game between two fairly evenly matched teams. CTFC started brightly and went close through a long range dipping volley from Josh White from distance. After a period of even play the home team broke the deadlock when a speculative long ball forward deceived the home keeper and bounced over his head leaving Owen Ford with the simplest of finishes. A cruel stroke of luck for the otherwise flawless Steel in goal.
The lead was doubled when Harry Malcolm met a perfect corner to head into the net for 2-0 which the score stayed until half-time. The second half again started fairly evenly and chances were few and far between - any efforts were dealt with well by both keepers. The home side eventually found a way back into the game. The tigerish Declan O'Shea won a free-kick in midfield which was quickly taken by Harvey Taylor to Charlie Richmond who finished expertly from the right hand side of the area.
The game was now finely poised and looked to be heading for a tense finish. The away team sealed victory though minutes later when Leighton's scrambled effort was judged to have crossed the line by the referee's assistant, leaving the final score at 1-3.
This was a game played in fantastic spirit, with both teams showing terrific sportsmanship throughout - a very enjoyable morning of football. CTFC wish Taunton luck for the rest of the season.
