Worcester City U14’s welcomed WBA Gloucs to Perdiswell with the pitches remaining in great condition despite the recent wet weather.
1st quarter – Relatively slow start to the game with both teams cancelling each other out across all areas of the pitch. With 15 minutes played both teams had worked hard to gain more possession and control, however other than a few corners each that had been well defended, neither goalkeeper had called into action. The first clear chance in the game came when Joe took on and went past the WBA right back, whipped in a cross for Scott who’s controlled side foot finish went just wide of the post. With WBA pushing forward Hobbo intercepted and played in Scott who slide the ball into Harry W to neatly combined with Joe, but Cam Middleton for WBA anticipated the danger and blocked the shot.
2nd quarter – A number of changes from both teams resulted in a better start to the quarter for WBA who looked to attack down the left side where possible, however Josh, Harry Egan, Charlie & Jack Fisher superbly protected Tom in goals with some excellent defending. As the quarter progressed WCFC gained more control of the game and continued to seek the first goal. A long diagonal ball from Scott released Archie M who used his pace to beat the defender, through on goal the he slide the ball past the advancing WBA keeper, yet his shot drifted just wide. Soon after WBA countered with their pacey No14 who cut in on the edge of the area and curled a shot into the corner which was well saved by Tom. The quarter finished with WCFC having plenty of the ball, yet the score line remained 0-0!
3rd quarter – WCFC continued to have the majority of the ball and following a number of corners Jarvo’s looping header beat the keeper, but went just over the bar. WBA were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the WCFC box, they crossed the ball which was caught by Archie B who quickly released Scott to power up the pitch before playing in Harry W with a looping ball, through on goal he calmly lobbed the goalkeeper to score and make it 1-0!
4th quarter – Into the last quarter and the game still finely balanced. Again WCFC start the brightest and after some tricky footwork from Joe on the left he beat his man and found Ethan on the penalty spot who’s neat turn & shot was well saved by the WBA goalie. Following a short clearance Scott spotted the keeper off his line and from 30yrds out he struck the ball, yet it some thunders off the post. More pressure from WCFC with a corner from Hobbo which Alex flicks on and Charlie times his run into the box perfectly to head the ball into net 2-0!
WBA commit more players forward looking to get back into the game, but lose the ball in the centre of the pitch following a tackle by Alex, he plays in Scott who’s through ball split the defense and after some hesitation between the last defender and the keeper Sam took advantage and coolly finished to make it 3-0!
WBA continue to push for a goal and with seconds remaining got a corner. The ball was looped into the box and cleared to the edge of the area, Laurie McNally took a touch and fired the ball on target through a mass of bodies, the WCFC goalkeepers got his hand on the ball on the line, however the ref signals the ball crossed the line and the game ends 3-1!
Well done to all involved and Worcester City would like to wish WBA Gloucs all the best for the remainder of the season.
