Peterborough strikers eventually do enough to see off Oxford
Peterborough started the better side and dominated possession in the first period, creating numerous good opportunities with their final pass or finishing letting them down. Oxford's back line and keeper also defended valiantly. The Boro boys did manage 1 goal after a good move on the right between Dami Agboola and Mitch Simons culminated with Simon's cross being tapped home by Andy Irvine.
Period 2 started the same way with Pboro creating but missing good opportunities and it was Oxford who created some good chances on the break and equalised with a well taken goal after a break down the right.
Peterborough struggled to get into a rhythm in period 3 and and Oxford began to dictate the midfield battle - eventually taking the lead with a 25 yard shot after a succession of corners where they created pressure.
Peterborough made wholesale changes to switch to an attacking formation and after missing a couple more good chances equalised when Joe Burborough swiveled and finished from close range. It was soon 3-2 when Mitch Simons was bought down on the edge of the area and got up to slam the ball home. Peterborough then began to dominate again and further goals from Burborough and Dan Bawa made the game safe.
Well done Oxford - a long way to come and a good performance which kept the result in doubt right to the end. Manager Marc Burchett said it was shooting practice for the Boro Boys in training this week!
