Q1 – In the first quarter both teams were battling it out in the midfield in difficult conditions. Sutton early on were on the attack but it was Rushden who were creating more of the opportunities and the Sutton keeper had to be on his toes, pulling off a couple of good saves to keep the score at 0-0. The Sutton defence was working hard to contain the Rushden attack and it wasn’t long before Rushden took the lead late into the quarter. Sutton conceded a corner and struggled to clear the ball away from danger, a clearance landed at the feet of a Rushden player to the far right of the penalty area who hit an unstoppable shot into the top left corner to make it 0-1.
Q-2 – The second quarter was tightly contested which was a competitive battle in the middle of the park with neither team creating any scoring opportunities with the quarter ending 0-1.
Q-3 – Sutton started brightly and thought they had equalised when a neat combination put in Max Turner who was adjudged to of been offside. As Sutton pushed on Rushden countered well to increase their lead. Some neat play from the Rushden midfield put a through ball onto the Rushden left winger who crossed low into the box for the Rushden striker to slot the ball home to make it 0-2.
Q-4 - Sutton began the final quarter strongly and created a good chance to score but the Rushden keeper wasn’t going to be beaten and saved smartly. Another opportunity fell to Suttons striker who blazed over from close range. The home team were pushing bodies forward in an attempt to get back in the game but the Rushden hit Sutton on the counter attack and scored to make the score 0-3 on the day.
