Match Report

On a grey drizzly day FC Wiltshire made the journey to Sussex to face Ifield Galaxy FC in their delayed cup fixture, FC Wiltshire deserve massive credit for taking this cup fixture when they could have postponed due to players playing for Swindon Schools but play the game they did with the players they had available, the score line would suggest a comfortable win for Galaxy but it hides what was a fairly even with both teams playing the right way & the ball spending the majority of the game on the floor, but Galaxy's clinical finishing was the difference today.

The first period started well with shared possession without to many chances being created, those that were the keepers dealt with comfortably, then some nice quick passing found Ryan Harris-Duff on the right flank in a tight area where he cut in with some great footwork before checking back & finishing in the far corner past the keeper, this was to be followed by 2 quick goals from some trademark skill & finishing from Charlie Martin to take Galaxy into a 3-0 lead, Galaxy then seemed to relax & invite FC Wiltshire on who duly obliged & after a cross from their right hand side, Galaxy failed to defend only clearing to the edge of the box where the player had time to take a touch before shooting which deflected to Dominic Foote who coolly lobbed the Galaxy keeper with a quality finish to make the game 3-1 shortly after this another attack saw a great long range strike hit the cross bar had it dropped in the half-time team talks may have been a little different.

The second period was a much tighter cagier affair with lots of good play from FC Wiltshire being thwarted by accomplished defending by Galaxy, in return Galaxy's good attacking play was ending with wasted chances missing the target, this was until some smart midfield play ended with a clever reverse pass from Tom Hearn finding Charlie Martin just inside the box who coolly finished across the keeper into the far corner to grab his hat trick, Galaxy hadn't finished & the post denied Charlie a fourth before Tom Hearn received the ball fully 22 yards out & struck a fantastic strike into the top corner that any keeper would have struggled with to wrap up the game 5-1.

I would like to say well done to Coaches, Parents & Players alike from FC Wiltshire who conducted themselves superbly & are exactly the type of reason we entered the JPL, I would like to wish them well for the remainder of the season & look forward to our 3rd game of the season next week where I am sure we can look forward to another tough game.
