South Dartmoor 3
West Oxford Sports Academy 1
Finally this JPL Cup match went ahead at the third attempt after the recent poor weather.
After a tense first half which saw opportunities at both ends (most notable a Rooney strike for South Dartmoor hitting the crossbar) the game burst into life in the second half.
South Dartmoor took the lead when Kuba Sobcizak struck from close range. Moments later West Oxford had the chance to equalise from the spot but the penalty was superbly saved by Olly Sidey diving low to his left.
West Oxford pulled equal after a long goal kick over the defence allowed the Oxford striker George Cristian to get in behind and fire home to pull his side level.
The highlight of the match was yet to come - South Dartmoor working the ball out wide and an excellent angled cross by the industrious Sleeman was met with a deft header from Rooney guiding the ball past the West Oxford keeper and into the corner of the net to put South Dartmoor back in the ascendancy.
As the clock ticked down West Oxford still looked dangerous on the long ball counter but South Dartmoor were turning the screw further up the field and a long range Rooney strike was mishandled by the West Oxford keeper (who had an excellent game for the most part) and crept over the line to seal the win for the home team.
All in all, a very competitive encounter with both sides giving 110% - The lads should be very proud of themselves for putting on a great and entertaining game of football. We wish the West Oxford Sports Academy team and fans a safe journey home and all the best for the rest of the season.
Finally, a mention for ALFIE COLLINGS - A Central Defender who showed his class and overall football ability with a roulette and driving run into the heart of the Oxfordshire West defence - well done Alfie - you never fail to impress and always entertain! Well done!
