Rep Teams

What is the JPL Representative Team Programme?

The Rep Team Programme is an opportunity for the League’s very best players from U11 to U16 to play against Professional Football Club Academies. The Programme is split geographically into The Midlands and The South and all JPL Clubs are invited to recommend players for trials throughout August, culminating in selection in September.

The games are played in school holidays to not interfere with their Club responsibilities and during 2016/17 the Representative Teams played Birmingham City, West Bromwich Albion, Southampton and Bristol City. The programme enables players the opportunity to test themselves against Academy players and teams and of course a number have now been selected to trial and ultimately sign for Academies as a result of playing against them.

During 2017/18 The Representative Teams will play a minimum of 5 matches, with additional training sessions delivered by JPL Coaches and Pro-Club Academy staff.

The Representative Team Programme is a unique and fantastic opportunity for the Junior Premier League’s very best players to showcase their individual and collective abilities to Professional Academies.

How to recommend a player

In order to recommend a player for the JPL Representative Team, coaches and parents from your team or club can recommend a player by emailing the Head of Talent ID and Head of Coaching at [email protected]

Following this, your coach or parents will then be asked to complete a google form which includes information about your position, club and playing statistics.

The usual process for the Representative team includes the JPL advertising trials at the end of the season and hosting trials throughout the Summer holidays. However, due to the success rate of players attending trials and signing for professional contracts throughout the season (40% during the 2017/18 season), players who have being recommended may well be called upon as guest players during half-terms.

When selecting players for the Representative teams we often check the Gold, Silver and Bronze table as well as contacting managers and coaches of teams who you you may have played for and against to gain more information regarding the type of player you are.
