Success Story: Lewis signs for Queen of the South

The Junior Premier League was delighted to hear that Lewis, from Workington FC Reds, has been signed by Queen of the South’s Academy!

Lewis signs for Queen of the South exactly seven years after his very first grassroots match for Seaton Athletic.

He started with Seaton Athletic in 2016 where coach Paul O’Leary was looking for a full-time ‘keeper. After first putting on the gloves, O’Leary quickly recognised Lewis’ reactions. He went on to play a 50/50 split goalkeeper and striker during his time at Seaton.

From there he was approached to play for Workington. He also played at Carlisle development for two years.

A trial day at Blackburn provided new opportunities, as Lewis was approached by a Burnley scout in attendance who invited him to trial at the club. The trial was a success and Lewis would go on to play for the development side for three years.

Lewis then switched his grassroots teams. He moved from Workington Blacks to Workington Whites, with the Whites competing in the JPL.

In more recent times Lewis has represented Workington Reds in the Junior Premier League, which has brought lots of opportunities to play against high-level opposition.

In addition to his matches, Lewis works hard at the gym to go the extra mile. Lewis also attends additional goalkeeper training with Dan at Rout2one coaching.

In the past year, Lewis also stepped up to play for the JPL Northern Rep Team, after being successful in the August 2022 trials. Lewis will be unable to continue to play for the Rep Team as he now makes the move across the border to join the Scottish side Queen of the South.

Everyone at the JPL congratulates Lewis on his move, we look forward to watching him progress in Scotland!
